The photo above is by my friend Mathias of Too Many Irons who takes the adventures in life I only daydream about. Pictures like this make me feel things. Wet snow on a metal roof. White mixed with dirt mixed with wood. The smell of cold under a sky filled with trees. UGH it’s November in Southern California and my six year old yells “IT’S FALL” when she sees any tree that is slightly not-green.
I will live this season vicariously and wear a sundress for Thanksgiving.
Words also make me feel things. Billy Collins is high on my list for enjoyable word reading. The type where it takes just enough brain effort to stay engaged but not so much that it’s tiring. Where the word combos are surprising and very normal but somehow just right and FUN.
There’s a lot happening right now everywhere all the time. When the people, events, pictures, places, and things are too heavy to convey in prose, the answer is probably poetry.
