Hey Gigi, I love that you don't have a smart phone. What bugs me with smart phones is that now we're all expected to be "ON" all. the. time. Whatever happens to getting back to people days and even weeks at a time? I think it's time we think things through, no? Anyhow, lovely to have met on the Stack- Cheers, - Thalia

Thalia, yes! And look at me getting back to you “right away.” But the beautiful thing is that it wasn’t compulsive…it just unfolded that way. I opened my computer, saw the comment, and decided that I wanted to respond right away.

I love my flip phone. And…my message mailbox is always full…and, I don’t even know how to empty it!

My life after social media and smart phones just has more room in it. My brain is more present in my tangible life. I have more time. It’s easier for me to connect and know what I actually like, who I really am, and the direction I should be going.

Also, people are waaaay nicer in real life than they are on the internet (generally speaking) and this helps me have a generous and hopeful view of humanity.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a comment. It was fun to sit on the floor with my morning cereal and read it.

Hooray!

Yes and yes to all this. I have a theory that the physical presence of a screen gives the perceived notion of impenetrability (sort of like being in a car)—people are a lot grouchier when they’re untouchable. Happy cereal eating by the way (we’ll have to exchange notes on favorite cereal. For me, I could always sneak a Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Though as I get older I should really watch my serving size. 😂)
